Keeping Business Costs Under Control

Any businesshas expenses. It’s necessary to spend money in order to ensure smooth operations. This can be anything from payroll to the cost of the Internet feed, and purchasing day to day supplies. Some areas can find ways to save, others should be left alone or things suffer. Identifying where money can be cut is key. Some operations go through a lot of paper and printer/copier ink. If a majority of items being printed out are for record keeping and other low level operations, look into purchasing lower quality reams in bulk. There’s no reason to spend lots of money on something that will never be seen by anyone but an employee. Pay attention to any complaints as some paper can cause problemsby jamming. Not enough finish on the sheets plus a dry office atmosphere can cause the paper to stick in the rolls on a printer.Ink is another area that can potentially be cut. Look into getting cartridges refilled instead of tossing or recycling them. Manufacturers do warn that refilling will void the warranty on their products, but there really is little to worry about. Thousands upon thousands of cartridges are refilled annually with no problems arising. And if there is a concern about a warranty, refill on the older printers that are out of theirs. That way if something does blow up, there’s no major loss.Larger operations require at least a T1 Internet feed in order to handle all of their users. Fortunately the passage of time has made the monthly cost of the service to come down significantly. Check with the IT department to see if the contract for service has expired. Carriers are very competitive and will be aggressive in courting a new customer. Seek to obtain a long term contract with a fixed lower pricing. This in turn will save the business money over the length of the contract.
